Return to the land Empty
PostSubject: Return to the land   Return to the land EmptyWed Jan 29, 2020 3:06 pm

The mountain of a man leaned back in the bar, well, it was becoming more of a tavern and brew house combination.  He had been pleasantly surprised by the progress of the work that had been done since his investment.  It had been around a year ago, at least, he thought it was.  The passage of time could be a weird thing at times.  His back rested against a wall, purple eyes taking in the sparse patronage of the afternoon.  A woman, one of the establishment staff walked over to him.
"What can I do for you Jessica?" He asked, taking a pull from his mug.

The woman smiled at him, "Just wanting to know what you thought of the new ale.  That's the first pour from the first barrel of the recipe you gave us."
He smiled, and considered the question.  Taking another drink, he rolled the dark liquid around on his tongue, letting the flavor play across his pallet.  "Its good.  Nice earthy over tones, with," he contemplated again, "A crisp, refreshingly cool finish.  Very well done, whats it called, if you've named it yet?"
"Thanks, I will tell Corky you like it.  And he thought we should call it Blackthorne Porter, after you evidently." The woman laughed.  "Here, lemme get you another."  She added, picking up the mug and making her way back towards the counter with a sway of her hips.  The man rolled his eyes, though watched her behind appreciatively despite being, he believed, about two and half to three thousand years older than she is, despite looking to be in his late 20s.  After she brought back the filled mug, she made her way around to the other patrons to see how they were doing.

Taking another sip, he let his mind wander back over the time since he had been in these lands.  After they had escaped from Arcane it had taken them a little while to want to come together again as a group in any capacity.  Hell, it had taken around a month before he had felt comfortable approaching the others, and even that was more due to them getting together first.  After a while of being together, and some deep talks, they had drifted, physically, away from each other again.  Then there had come the tribal uprising along the northern borders back home.  The Silarnian Empire had been sewing dissent along the border within the tribes.  That had been before invading with twenty thousand troops.
They had covered around 150 miles from the initial border crossing before being met with the homeland troops.  The standing army of Kingdom Blackthorne had been able to muster an easy hundred thousand men.  But only fifteen thousand had been actively taken north.  Why?  Because the king had known the number mustered would be fed back to the Silarnus Emperor, and beating his army after giving them a five thousand man handicap would send a message of superiority.  The fighting had been brutal, but the enemy had been broken, fleeing back across the border scaled tails between their legs.  A few more months had been spent traveling the north, speaking with and resettling the agitated tribesmen.  Couple that with the reswearing of vows, and it had only been recently he had been able to return here.

"Everyone has a chapter they won't read out loud."
Her body stretched, arms reaching above her head as her back arched. The cool morning air filled her lungs as she took a deep breath while emergig from her den. The day was clear, a gentile breeze ruffling long locks of red hair as the sun danced flames against the hues.  For the most part the work around the den was done, she had spent the last length of time renovating the den, setting a territory and making a new life.
It had been a while since she had seen her friends, knowing everyone was essentially starting over after the past endeavors they've each been through. She pondered heading out and chancing the odds by just finding one of her friends however with a smirk the idea was dismissed for a new easier form of travel.
Since being separated from Nott she had to learn the harness her powers without the added restraint of the diety. This gave way to new horizons that would allow Kara to utilize the gift she was given. Crimson eyes closed as the area around the den darkened, dark energy swirled around her form until consuming her completely and disappearing.
Eyes opened as she felt her feet land upon solid earth,  her form coming to be visible outside a building that smelled heavily of alcohol. It took almost everything she had to not audibly laugh, "Of course I find you with a bar." she said with a smile as the door swung open. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the darkened room, Blades smell permeating the area. "well hello old friend." she said, moving through the doorway.

He felt a familiar tug at the edge of his mind, but, it was also accompanied by a pull of shadow that had an unfamiliar feel to it. He knew she had the ability to manipulate shadow as he did, even if it was in a different way. But, he knew how that felt, there was also a sense of, something, he didnt know, but there was something. This though, it felt like her, but without that sense of other. After a moment of thought, he shrugged his shoulders, figuring she would explain if it were important enough. Taking a drink, he looked over as the doors opened, outside light spilling into the establishment, silhouetting her lithe frame. her scent following momentarily as the air currents reached his nose. As the doors swung shut behind her and her eyes became visible, he could see her crimson eyes with a sparkle of humor. "Of course I would find you with a bar," eliciting a laugh from him.
"Hello to you as well, my diminutive friend." He fired back, kicking a chair out for to take a seat, and gesturing for Jessica to come get her drink order. Eyes appraising her as she sat, Blade smiled. "You seem to be fairly well, unless theres some sort of scar from being impaled that I dont see?" Another smile. "But to your point, I may have made a sizeable investment in this establishment about a year ago. Along with imparting some brewing recipes that seem to have done rather well." He said, gesturing with his mug, giving it a slight swirl to release some more of its aroma. "Plus with the renovations going on in the attached building next door, well, it wont quite be the old night club we used to have, it'll be a nice place. If at some point we want to be enterprising, we could probably get something set up in the city, maybe invest in that casino/night club they already have."
At this point, Jessica brought over a plate of food, well, nibbling food, and took Kara's drink order.

"Everyone has a chapter they won't read out loud."
A deep warm laugh filled the room, she smiled and eyed her friend as the door closed behind her and the sunlight that flooded in was quickly shut out. The room adjusted to her crimson eyes as the buzz of workers could be heard to sensitive ears. He seemed to be doing well for himself, though she always thought Blade to enjoy the finer things while she was content in the dirt den. The comparison made the smile on her lips widen as she found that in the time away she dearly missed her friends.
The chair moved out, her hand catching its back as it steadied and her body eased into it.
The irony of his words almost made her audibly laugh, her mind flashing back to the lab. "Impailed no, but dead none the less," she commented lightly, shrugging her shoulders. Her eyes moved around the room as Blade explained his newest endeavor, her head nodding with appreciation as she took it all in. "You've done well, its a great place Blade. Besides, I think we're all a little old to be clubbing all the time." she joked.
The woman who was acting as his assistant came with food which she greatly accepted, mouthing thank you as Blade explained his future plans. She litened intently, eyes moving from her food and back. "It sounds like you have it all planned out, have you heard from the others?" she asked softly, the hint of sadness coating her tone.

"I've felt them at the edges, but they have felt fairly distant.  Though, I've only been back for a few days.  I put in my investment, then went back to the shadow realm.  There was a fair bit of unrest along the northern border, not to mention the invasion.  The Silarnian bastards keep trying to expand their borders to include us, which we obviously can't have.  But, they've been trying to do that since my great grandfathers time.  So, of course I had to beat them with a force that they outnumbered to try sending a message." Spearing a piece of meat off the tray, with a fork for once, he pondered it for a moment before eating. "Seems the stone roasting ovens are doing nicely. I'd be happy to show you the renovations we have going on, that way you can claim one of the rooms if youd like."

Leaning back, his purple eyes played across her face again. "I wouldnt necessarily call it clubbing, and I also wouldnt say we are too old for it. Though we all went through a lot in Arcane, quite the start contrast from the kumari territory." The events briefly flashed through his mind, the peaceful existence they had once known being utterly turned upside down by capture by Oxen Corporation. Those had been some rough times.

But, they were in a, well, a calmer place now if not a better one. Not to say that the technology was any less advanced than it had been in Arcane, but at least they weren't being actively hunted here, at least to their knowledge. His only complaint was that yesterday he had come across the scent of a leech that he hadnt smelled since he had left the kumari territories, He wasnt a huge fan of the blood suckers to begin with, and this one had pissed him off personally.

Return to the land Empty
PostSubject: Re: Return to the land   Return to the land EmptySun Feb 02, 2020 8:44 am

The old vacant building had been abandoned and left to wither away with time. Half forgotten by the town's people. It sat in the middle of town, down a less desirable street that none dared visited, as the location sat right in the middle of rival gangs. The side of the building was covered in graffiti and vines snaked up from the sides to the towering street light. It was two stories tall, a stand alone building off the main road of town. One door at the front, and one on the side next to the stairs that led to the exit door of the second floor.

That was until an unknown buyer bought the place.

Blue neon lights, illuminated the "Open" sign as it flickered below the name painted on the window, "Private Investigator of the Tri-Cities" and below that, the hours of operation, Nights Only. The second floor she turned into her own home, with a large bathroom and bedroom, dark specially made curtains hung up to block the sun as she rested during the day, and a fully stocked kitchen, state of the art fridge to keep her vials of blood fresh and cold, and an arrange of instruments for her to either cook or make positions.
She had had to clean up the rift raft of course. The local human gangs did not like that she had bought the place. It had started with the vandalism, broken windows, threatening letters, all of which just pissed Desi off. She was the baddest thing out there and they would soon learn. After cleaning up the damages and repairing her sign, the fun began.

Casting illusions inside illusions, she waited, watching on her monitors. Sure enough they returned, and the screams began. The humans ran away screaming, pissed pants and all. After a few months, rumors began that the building was haunted. She played to their beliefs and superstitions. Her stomach hurt so much from laughing, but it had paid off. She had spooked the gang members and so far they had left her building, her territory, alone.

She left her business cards in random places of work, coffee shops, local businesses, bars. The cards themselves, looked plain; ordinary. Just the name, the location, and the hours of operation; but the underlining allure was for those of the supernatural.

Business had been slow at first, but the pull to this town had been strong. Her first few cases had been surprisingly of the supernatural sort. A witch losing her familiar, a lover's triangle between succubi; was the male cheating on her with her sister? It all had been trivial and half amusing, but she did the work with pleasure, enjoying the hunt and finding the answers; however, this was not all she was looking for. She had followed an elite hunter, murderer, but had lost his trail. He was much better than she was, she hated to admit, but he had unraveled her illusions with barely any resistance.
Crumpling up the piece of paper, she angrily tossed it across the room and into the wire trash bin. The makeshift ball bounced, then rolled, shifting on top of many other rolled up pieces of paper, before settling. It had been three days since the Martinez family had walked through her doors. Shifting, she leaned back to ease the tension from her shoulders.
...............
The bell chimed as the door opened, alerting Desi 'Andrea that she had customers. The waiting room was a bit small, a few chairs lined the wall on either side. She had a magazine rack and a water cooler for refreshments.

Dressed in soft grey slacks, and a white buttoned top, and black heels, she greeted the couple and extended her hand to the male, her expression one of sympathy. The male, tall and lean, an aristocrat was holding his composure as his arms held his wife to his side. She, much smaller than her husband, was sobbing quietly, but it was difficult to make out what she was saying. Behind them stood a tall no nonsense male. He wore a black suite and white shirt. He carried a brief case, but other than that he did not speak. A body guard.

Andrea, the name she used, ushered them in to sit in the chairs in front of her desk as she closed the door. Sat, she extended a box of Cleanex toward the wife. She could smell the fear and sorrow coming off of them in waves, but underneath; was something she hadn't come across in millennia.
The husband took charge. Snapped his fingers, and only then the body guard stepped forward. The briefcase was sat gently but firmly on her desk. The husband, Estabon, entered the code on the dial pad. With a soft click, the briefcase opened, and inside was full of money. Rows of green.
His piercing gold brown eyes looked directly in Andrea's, he smirked as his hand left his right pocket, and pushed her own card towards her.

Estabon: You left this at the bank. I am glad your investment seems to be working out. I had a feeling you'd be useful in this town, and now we need your help.

Pushing her fingers into her throbbing temple, messaging, she mustered a silent prayer to the Goddess. Could she find it in time?

Weary, she closed up early. She could not take on any other cases. This was priority. As the wind picked up, it tossed a flyer her way. Bending down, she plucked the paper as it curled around her heel. She read the contents and smiled. A new tavern. Seemed like a good as place as any. Her leads into the local gangs possibly being involved where being monitor, so far nothing seemed out of place. She could use a drink, but first a change of clothes as she headed upstairs to her loft and a sip of blood. Her first in a months time.
.............

She headed inside and made her way to the bar, her eyes swept over the place discretely. She didn't sit immediately, the place having so many scents. "Dragon's Blood cocktail."
