Okay, some of you may not understand how this type of Role Play works, if that is the case here is a guide to help you understand.

It may be easier for you if open two Web Pages at this stage, to navigate and read at the same time for better comprehension.

S T R U C T U R E

To understand how the site works, first you must understand the structure.  Listed below are the types of things you will here, and a small definition of each thing so you understand what people are talking about.

F O R U M

The Forum is the home page. It is where the majority of Game Play and writing happens.

C A T E G O R I E S

The Forum is divided up into segregated forum sections called Categories. This makes for easier navigation around the site. Our categories consist of -
  • Out Of Character.
  • In Character.
  • Territorial Posting.

Each Category is made for different uses. They are as follows and will be explained further and in more detail in the next section-

Out of Character - This is strictly for Out Of Character use. You cannot post In Character here.

In Character -
We have two places for story writing on Hiraeth, one is In Character and th other is below, Territorial Posting. This Category is used primarily for In Character Posting. Although, there is a section devised for Out Of Character plotting, but there will be more on this in a moment.
The individual sections will be explained in detail in a moment, but in this board, you have one story per thread as opposed to one story per chapter thread in Territorial Posting.

Territorial Posting -
This is used Solidly for In Character Posting. You cannot post Out Of Character here.
Territorial Posting is used differently than the above explain In Character posting by which your story is divided into chapters in different locations. More will explained below.

B O A R D S

In each Category you will see a number of pictured boards. These are named according to their uses.
We will explain them individually in their categories for better understanding.

Out of Character -
The beginning Journey -
This is specifically for Out Of Character use for new users, you may not post in Character here and although some boards are for member use, it is primarily used for Navigation and Useful information for Members.  In here is where you will find the Character Profiles and The Geography of Hiraeth for you to better understand your world.

Out of Character -
Here you will find things such as Games, Blogs and Forms for Hiraeth Character Development. It is mostly used for Out of Character posting, how ever, we do allow games in character in the game section; but the games are separate from plots and cannot be combined. It is purely for fun. Blogs are to be kept Out of Character.

In Character -
In Character Posting in designed for a one thread story basis. These threads can span for years without completion with multiple players; but the idea of ths is the ease of posting and not having to jump from place to place to begin a new chapter as you would with Territorial Posting (Explained below), but just because you have a character in this category of posting, does not mean you cannot have more characters in the Territorial Style. The only Boundary is your mind.

This is also where we allow Canon Style Role Play; that means if you want a Harry Potter themed Role Play, you may do so here. Vampire Diaries, Friday 13th style play – anything.

Plotting -
This is pretty straight forward. Here is where you might place character plotting pages, or group plotting pages. Perhaps you have a fantastic plot in mind and want to advertise it to find suitable players to join you. This is where you would do such a thing. Anything may go here as long as it is for Plotting purposes.

Mundane -
So, here is where the only human role plays go. There cannot be any supernatural play within these boards. This was created for those which specifically wanted to play just with humans; be that a Mafia style role play, a family style role play or a school style role play. It is completely up to you, but there is to be no supernatural play here.

Supernatural -
Here you can play any character. It could be that you play a human here, that is fine but be aware that any moment you might be attacked by a witch, or a vampire. There are no limitations to what can happen within this board.

Territorial Posting -
These Boards are set out like a game. So, when your character is introduced to a new land, you can filter through the areas of the Territories and decide where best they are suited. Then you would begin the first chapter of their story. From there, when the Chapter is finished, you would move them to the next area for posting the next Chapter of their existence.
You may have a couple of threads going with a single character, this is fine as long as the time line is explained through the writing. So, if one chapter is taking place in another area, you must state if it is before or after this Chapter by perhaps having memory flashbacks and such – this is for the more experienced of writers however.

This is also where your character can excel in the “game”. For instance, the Territorial Boards can always grow. There can always be more added. If you wish for you character to become the lead of an entire family, you will need to acquire and rule over some territories, this requires some discipline and hard work. Maybe you want to fight for a title among the other characters that play here? Gather a name for yourself. The possibilities are endless!

Sub-boards are located within the initial face boards. They are all very straight forward and do not need much explaining; if we were to explain every single sub-board, we would be here for ever.

On Forum Role Play, Stories are often called threads. Each thread is a chapter and if you think of the story as a blanket – each thread is an integral part of the blanket, just as it is in Role Play.

First you choose the area you feel is best for you character. Once it is chosen you will enter the area; be that The single story threads of In Character Posting, or the Chapter based threads of Territorial Posting, where ever that may be, enter.

At the top right of the forum, you will see a button that reads “New Topic”, click that.
You will be presented with three boxes:

Topic Title: What do you want to call your story/ Chapter?
Description: This is not necessary, but can be if you like.
Message Body: This is where you will write your story. Be descritpive, be energetic and write to your hearts content. Perhaps you'd like to look at the Posting for Beginners if you're not familiar with Forum style posting.

Once you are finished and happy with the opening to your first Chapter, hit the “Send” button.

If you wish to reply to a topic, there is a box below the post in which you may directly post your reply; other wise, you can hit the “post reply” button at the top left of the forum.

If anything is unclear to you, please contact a member of staff and they will assist you directly.
